Subcontracted and collaborative R&D:
The University of Valencia OTRI (Technology Transfer Office) was set up in 1989 and is part of the Vice-Rectorate for Scientific Research and Policy. It works to strengthen cooperation and relations between the University's departments and research institutes and the companies and institutions in the surrounding area in matters of research and in the provision of high added value technical services.
As a mediating structure between the university and society, OTRI is keen to promote and drive forward effective relations of knowledge exchange and transfer applied to the needs of the industrial, social and service sectors of society.
These objectives are expressed in the following functions:

- Identify transferable outcomes generated by research groups and assess their transfer potential.
- Facilitate and organise the appropriate mechanisms for transferring results to companies.
- Evaluate, protect and manage intellectual and industrial property generated by the University; disseminate and transfer it to organisations.
- Channel the negotiation and management of research contracts, technical assistance, consultancy, patent licensing, etc. between its research groups and companies.
- Inform about R&D support programmes promoted by the administration (at regional, national and European level) and facilitate technical assistance for drawing up projects and budgets, managing the application process.
- Promote and advise on the creation of new R&D structures such as technology-based spin-off companies, technology platforms and mixed research units.
- Provide added-value services to transfer activities taking place within the University of Valencia Science Park.
