#LivePCUV con José María Lagarón, investigador del IATA-CSIC

01/09/2020

José María Lagarón, founding researcher of the New Materials and Nanotechnology group at the Institute of Agrochemistry and Food Technology (IATA-CSIC), is the driving force behind the research project that has designed and manufactured masks made in Spain which, unlike conventional masks, have a nanofiber filter that allows mechanical filtration. This filter, patented by IATA-CSIC and Bioinicia spin-off, dissipates heat better due to its lightness and increases the durability of the mask, since filtration is permanent and does not decrease with use.

This week the first half million masks produced with this filtering material have arrived on the Spanish market, and over the next few weeks they will also be marketed in Germany and Latin America. The researchers assure that these masks will also soon be antimicrobial and biodegradable. These masks have the special CPA FFP2 certification, which the European Union has launched to solve the emergency created by the interruption of the trade of certain filtering materials that came mainly from China. They have been certified by DEKRA and APPLUS+.

Tomorrow, September 1st, at 17:00h in our Instagram channel (@parccientificuv), José María Lagarón will answer the questions of the public about this new technology, which is the result of the projects approved by the CSIC Global Health platform and by the call of the Valencian Innovation and Research System of the Regional Ministry of Innovation, Universities, Science and Digital Society to address the COVID-19 pandemic.

#LivePCUV is a new space for live interviews through which professionals working in the University of Valencia Science Park share with society their projects, developments and activities.
